Get an early start on making sure I'm not late - but of course I'm late!
The problem with using song lyrics as taglines tends to be that I don’t remember which one’s I’ve used before… I’m thinking perhaps I used this one before, but I just don’t know anymore. I like the song “Old Brown Shoe”, though, and the way it puts together seeming contradictions (I want a love that’s right, but what’s right is only half of what’s wrong…)
You all might be glad to know that my free subscription to Sirius XM is almost over, and so I’ll probably have fewer Beatles-related music things coming up. I spend a lot of time in the car these days, and I like having the Beatles channel, but it’s the only channel I listen to there, so I don’t know if it’s worth paying for the service. Back in the day, I know we got a couple of offers in the mail that were something like $5 a month for six months or a year, and at this point, I might consider an offer like that. I don’t know.
You might be proud of me here, I started this on Monday! And… I managed to add one link, and pick it up here again late Saturday night. However, I have had a busy week, with a couple of unexpected things coming up. They weren’t necessarily bad, but unexpected.
A strange little note, a question, I guess. I was nodding off once during the week and the thought came that I had somehow, somewhere heard that girls’ hair should be tucked up under the bonnet before Easter, and it could be allowed out for Easter and afterwards. It’s not even a full memory, more of a phantom, but it was so out of the blue, I wasn’t sure if this actually once was a thing or if my mind was just doing weird stuff. Has anybody heard of this?
(Just a quick note, Substack was having issues Sunday which didn’t allow me to edit.)
So, anyway, without further ado, this week’s roundup:
Writing
Reading
Pieces of My Heart - Marilyn R. Gardner | Personal reflections on the eve of Great Lent; Orthodox, but bouncing off ideas posed by Nadia Bolz-Weber, who can be absolutely brilliant (when not wandering into heresy).
A Touch of Green on Forgiveness Sunday - Blisswood
Do you live in a bubble? A quiz - PBS NewsHour
How an Obsolete Copy Machine Started a Revolution - National Geographic
Social Media claims Prince William is the father of (mistress) Rose Hanbury's daughter Iris Marina born in 2016. | Lipstick Alley - Why did I click on this? I really can’t tell you. Inexplicable.
Adolf Hitler Campbell Custody Battle: Parents Will Not Get Kids Back After Nazi Naming - HuffPost Latest News | An old story, but it seems that adults who name children awful things aren’t really good people to begin with.
JOHN WAYNE GACY'S OTHER VICTIMS – The tragedy of Chicago's notorious serial killer didn't end with his execution. We help to explain why. | I haven’t checked back here in over a decade. There is a little bit of new stuff, but not much.
This is chilling if it’s going to be Stripe’s policy, or if they’re being “leaned on” by the government
Listening
I listened to this twice, I thought it was so good: Tucker Carlson's FULL SPEECH at ISI's 70th Anniversary Gala
Streaming, Politics, & Philosophy | @destiny | EP 433 Jordan Peterson
Watching
I’ll admit, I didn’t watch much of this, but for kids of the late Soviet era, the cartoons such as this - Winnie the Pooh - these are a cultural thing outsiders never truly “get”.
Removing a Serious Dent: Herald Trumpet Restoration Project #5
I bought a Contrabass Clarinet on Ebay... but does it work?

Recipe: Homemade Cheese Sauce - The Recipe Critic | I made this, but added more milk to thin it out a bit and added “hot” sauce from Taco Bell. It was quite satisfactory as a cheese dip for pretzels.
Isabel Hapgood - Wikipedia (I don’t recall if I had something on her last week or not)
