I underestimated - by a lot - how crazy “getting into gear” for the new school year would be. This past week alone, I was on call for jury duty (thankfully, I didn’t have to go in), there were two after-school sports games, picture day, two extra runs to school because of things left at home, and lots and lots of cleaning to try to get two large house projects in motion before the weather gets too cold (with a third one waiting on the tail of those two). All of this with a toddler in tow, who also needs time and attention, time outside at the park to enjoy the beautiful weather, etc.
I’ve been tired, and completely short on time. I sat at the computer on Wednesday, ready at 11:30pm, to start a “Wordless Wednesday” post, and though many times I’ve managed that, even so late, I just didn’t have the attention left to do it. I will get back to writing more, I just can’t at the moment.

Fashion Notes: The Insincerity of John Fetterman's Hoodie, Explained - Breitbart | When I started working at Barnes and Noble in 2000, corporate had just rescinded the requirement that men wear button shirts with ties. This was for a job that started at $6.25 an hour. Sure, a lot of people don’t dress up for work, but while a farmer may be out in a flannel shirt and denim overalls caked in mud, it’s appropriate for the work, and still manages to be less “slob clothes” than Fetterman. It’s not blue-collar, it’s completely ghetto, and not appropriate for a place like the senate.

Watching
Listening
I am really, really enjoying Jordan Peterson’s series on Exodus. I listened to his first couple Genesis ones, and while very good, I think these are much better. These have been keeping me company whilst folding clothes, cooking, cleaning the kitchen, etc. Episode 8 here:

What’s Cooking
I’ve been noticing (again) that with more space, I start doing more in the kitchen. I tried this recipe, and it was pretty good (I used ranch instead of caesar dressing), though I’m going to try it again making the wraps thinner and aim for chicken bakes more along the lines of egg roll sized rather than Costco sized. https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/costco-chicken-bake-recipe-revealed/
Miscellaneous
This heartwarming vid of a newborn who stops crying next to mama is great but Allie Beth's response is even better 🥰 - Not the Bee - I cried. This is amazing.
Angel Studio is fundraising for the documentary version of Rod Dreher’s “Live Not By Lies”, and there are 11 days left to the campaign. Anyone interested should visit https://invest.angel.com/live . I don’t link to Dreher’s substack very often because it’s almost all paid content. If you had told me six months ago I’d pay to subscribe, I probably would have laughed at you, but I did, and it’s become my “must read” for the day. As much as his writing is very good, the comments and the “community” of commenters is really amazing. He’s got a bit of a write-up on the Live Not by Lies project here (though, as someone who took Russian, turning around “r”s and “n”s to make things “look more Russian” is extremely irritating!)
Life in the old neighborhood
Thank you so much for spending some time over here, I appreciate the company. What’s been interesting to you this week?
I know I had a little bit of “personal notes” at the top of the post, but for those with paid subscriptions, the regular “personal notes” section is a bonus.
