The weather’s turning a little colder; we’ve had days now that barely got above freezing, but considering it’s ALMOST DECEMBER* in Wisconsin, I don’t feel there’s much to complain about. We’ve had snow once so far - on Halloween - and the forecast says we might get a little snow tomorrow, but so far, so good on the winter front. The two days’ “rest” has been a blessing, though for mom, “rest”, especially with a holiday, is relative.

*how did that happen?

    The Hem Of Christ's Garment
What a great thing church was today. I have been sick since the ARC conference in London three weeks ago. I caught a monster cold on Day Two, and though the cold symptoms eventually departed, I have continued to feel completely wiped out. I wondered for a while if I might have had Covid, but these s…

  • MILLER’S BOOK REVIEW 📚
Open Thread: Books that Changed Your Thinking?
Books allow us to contemplate ideas other than our own. Sometimes the effect is minimal; we entertain thoughts that wouldn’t otherwise occur to us but then scoot along when we’re done. We might even forget what the book was about. But other books have a profound effect on us and alter how we think about some aspect of the world—maybe several. Reading all…

  • Who Is Lumalee, ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’s Blue Star? - Collider | The grammar here is awful. “They” is plural, not singular. It isn’t clear if Lumalee is male or female, but as a star, it can correctly be called “it”.

  • Kenosha church replaces sign destroyed in 2020 - The Kenosha News | The sign wasn’t on the church property; but it was by the sidewalk since the church is not quite on the main drag, but something like one lot to the west of the sidewalk. The city decided that the sign was “non-compliant” and couldn’t be replaced, citing separation of church and state. It took all sorts of legal wrangling to come to some sort of deal over it. Absolutely ridiculous.

    Confession conventions in Russia
Of course the general form of the Rite of Confession/absolution here in Russia differs little if any from that seen in many Orthodox churches in America. The penitent approaches the priest who is standing next to the analogion on which the Cross and Gospel book is laying, offers his confession, and the priest, after some advisory words, grants absoluti…
