Hello friends, it’s Sunday again, and I’m here trying to put together the weekly Saturday roundup. It’s been a really busy week; the kids are back in school and adjusting to the schedule and structure again, and I’m running around with a million things to do. Please forgive me for the light blogging; as much as I do try to make writing happen, real life takes precedence. I’m hoping that the kids being in school, and the rhythm that that sets also helps bring things into a calmer routine for me… Hope is eternal, yes?

Claire Warren on Instagram: “You’d tell her to bore off, right? 😅 So why do we put up with this kind of BS from ourselves? 🤷🏼‍♀️ Wouldn’t life be so much easier if we gave ourselves the kind of empathy and understanding we give to others? Whilst I have by no means conquered the mum guilt, I have found a few techniques that help to reduce the self-bashing… 1. Stop comparing yourself to people online Those Insta-mums who make the beautiful creative meals, sensory trays and play activities - they probably do that for a living. If it was your job and you got paid to put out new creative content each day, you’d find the time to do it too. 2. Losing your temper occasionally is human Trying never to lose your temper is impossible. But what you can do, is apologise quickly if and when you’ve been short-tempered and ask your kids how they think you could have dealt with it better, and how they can help you avoid getting angry in future. 3. Get comfortable with compromise Whatever work/parenting balance you strike, you will probably feel some guilt about the things you’ve had to sacrifice. There is no perfect balance. So instead of imaging you can do it all, get comfortable with compromise and fully embrace whichever choices you make. 4. Staying up late is your choice. You are a grown-up. We all know the benefits of getting an early night. But sometimes it genuinely is the only time you can get to yourself. So I think you’ve simply got to weigh up the pros and cons. How tired do you feel the next day? Is it debilitating? Or is it fairly minor, and well worth the hours of peace you gained? If you’re finding it’s challenging your ability to get through the day and cope with your children, it might be time to try an hour earlier. Do you have any tips for battling the mum guilt? Forgive me if it seems like this week’s edition here is a bit scatterbrained, I went through my history and 2/3 of it was stuff that was email or orders - things that needed to get done this week, but not fun or interesting. Did I miss anything exciting? I’d love to hear from you!

Unfortunately, the way Substack sets up posts, I can’t make a post with a paywall and allow “everyone” to respond. However, feel free to pick another post to comment if you wish - or become a paid subscriber! :)

Have a wonderful week!
