It’s been another week of nonstop stuff. The kids had Monday off for a teacher in-service, and then they had Wednesday off because there was no power to the school on Wednesday morning. The power company estimated that the outage would be fixed somewhere around 10:30am, which might have been manageable, except that when at least some of the bathrooms need power to work (automatic flush, I guess). It turned out the power was on by 9:30am, but it’s not like they were going to call back the kids after sending them home. I haven’t managed to write much as I’m still juggling multiple projects here offline.

Writing

Music

  • The woman here is currently recording under her actual name again (Elle Cordova) but she’s got some of the most innovative lyrics of current songwriters, often incorporating science or science-fiction elements:

  • Random typing on my keyboard - I played the song and guessed they are Albanian, and I think I’m right

  • It came from the ‘90s cafe - Ace of Spades

  • I had an online friend way back when who worked at a record store and we did an offline music exchange and this was one of the songs, though I think a different version.

Listening

  • This is NSFW but very interesting. I have a good deal of respect for Bill Maher, though I think he’s wrong about a lot, and the interaction between him and Jordan Peterson is amazing.

  • The best thing on television right now - Jordan Peterson’s series on Exodus (pt 11)

  • Tucker Carlson at the Center for Christian Virtue:

  • Since there was discussion of this woman and of UFOs and stuff over at Rod Dreher’s substack: Dr. Diana Walsh Pasulka, American Cosmic’s Breakaway Civilization |417|

I’ve mentioned in previous postings, I’m noting a lot more ethnic diversity on this visit to Russia than I have in the past. True, I think I’ve encountered Gypsies on every trip I’ve made here up to now. And seeing various central As…

  • Learning a little bit about Tuva: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuva. To most people, Russia seems fairly monolithic, but there are all sorts of different peoples and languages that are indigenous to the Russian land that are not Russian at all. I had a course in college where we did a little bit of study to the different peoples and regions of Russia and it was really, really interesting.
