It’s been a weird week, but I think spring is finally here for good! A look back:
Writing:
I haven’t done a whole lot of writing - I think I’m in a little bit of a funk, and it looks like I’m not going to have this posted “officially” on Saturday.
A fun thing with
Spring of Cary - Holiday
Again, I’ve had more in my head; getting it written is sometimes the hard part.
Music:
The song of the week, I think.
Looking up old stuff:
Gordon Lightfoot. I didn’t like him very much as a kid. He was definitely something that my parents listened to a lot, though, so he’s very familiar. It’s only with Rick Beato’s series “What Makes this Song Great” that I gave Gordon Lightfoot a second listen, and … wow. But it’s also not music I think a kid would appreciate.
Watching/Listening:
Jordan Peterson and Naomi Wolf. She’s absolutely brilliant, and so is he. I don’t think she’s used to being matched intellectually; if anything, I think he bested her. I think a little of the class thing comes into play, in particular since she was the daughter of a college professor who grew up in San Francisco, and he grew up in an oil town in northern Alberta. It’s also impressive how he seems to go from one aspect (her studies of women in Victorian literature) and moves it right into something she’s working on now (health management). My jaw just about dropped when he did that, and I don’t think she was expecting it either.
I was in the car for awhile this week, so I listened to a couple more from the series:
And this:
This was amusing:
I loved the 1951 animated version of Peter Pan, but even as a young teenager, I was well aware that Disney would never risk making a movie like that again.
Abbot Tryphon is always posting good stuff:
And That Awkward Mom:
This is a little bit different than most of her videos and she gives a little bit of insight to being a “Youtube creator”.
Reading:
The tyranny of “little” things, religious freedom, etc. Right up my alley for writing more about, but I don’t think I will. This time, at least, the government is backing down. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/254253/update-feds-back-off-demand-that-catholic-hospital-extinguish-chapel-candle
South Korea has the lowest birthrate in the world; excluding children from public life is not helping things at all. An MP speaks about this here: https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1654088336934424576.html It’s truly not just about children though, and this is important: “In order to boost our birthrate that is the world's lowest, we should first change our society that rejects children. Children are our fellow citizens who learn about the world for the first time, so they can be slow, clumsy, or inexperienced in everything."
"But all of us are, or were once children...The society we want is not one that is only made for people who are quick, skillful, and experienced - but one where it's okay to be slow, clumsy, or inexperienced,"
On the prophet Jeremiah:
This seriously makes me want to read these parts of the Bible again. That being said, the pinning back of the song “Man of Constant Sorrow” to the movie “O Brother Where art Thou?” is so precious! Millennials!
