I’ve had better luck with Substack since last weekend, when it was nigh on impossible to get things to work. I’m still noticing a few glitches, but they’re small. I meant to get back to last week’s roundup, but Sunday morning, as I was starting to get kids ready for church, my 7-year-old started crying that her ear hurt. So we stayed home. Turns out it was an ear infection, and then a lot of the week got eaten up by sick kids. And yet, they need me as much as I can manage when they’re sick, especially when they are little.
Anyway, I’m hoping to clear out some tabs here, at the very least, since my computer doesn’t seem to like it when I have 20+ tabs open!

Books
I finished Breath and Starshine by Kami King Larsen; the review is in the list above. I think I want to go back to a book I didn’t finish last year, and then work my way through some other things. I know it’s not much, but I’ve finished three books this year, and I believe that’s already two more than last year.
Reading
Russian priest who adopted 70 children jailed for abuse - BBC News | Not only is this a terrible story, but it’s one of the places I visited in Russia in 2007. Was anything bad going on then? It’s impossible to know.
Nolte: If Apple Can ‘Lose’ 650 of Steven Van Zandt’s Movies, Yours Sure Aren’t Safe - Breitbart | No one’s stuff is ever completely safe, but this serves as another reminder that holding on to physical media - movies, books, photos - is important.
The Manson Girl Who Got Away - The New Republic | Absolutely Fascinating
Last Year in Abyssinia - Hands Outstretched | I hope we get to hear their whole story
Come read this thread about the new ketchup cap that cost Heinz $1.2 million to design - Not the Bee | Heinz sells so much ketchup and other condiments, I’m sure it’s worth it.
Nepal Requires Tracking Chips for Mount Everest Climbers - Breitbart | Not surprising, considering how nuts it’s gotten up there!
Germany Inadvertently Reveals the UK has Soldiers in Ukraine - Breitbart | Absolutely ridiculous on so many levels!
This Oklahoma woman turned 100 today on her 25th birthday - Not the Bee | (I really like how they phrase that!)

Learning
Lost Voices of Hagia Sophia: Medieval Byzantine Chant | Supposedly how a church service in the Hagia Sophia would sound
Children of God for Life (abortion-tainted vaccines)
An Interview With Flick Miles, Hermione Granger's Body Double : The Indiependent | I realized they used doubles a lot with the HP kids, but to hear one of them talk about it is pretty interesting!
How Many Braille Readers Are There? - American Foundation for the Blind | It seems as though Braille literacy is extremely low these days. Audiobooks and other accessibility tools seem to have filled that space, but there’s certainly something to be said about having the ability to read without an electronic device as an intermediary.
