I can relate about driving; it is soul draining for me. I spent the last 8 months doing a 6- 6.5 hour drive, twice weekly. In addition, it wasn’t uncommon to have to go to Chicago or Cleveland, which would be another 4-5 hours each way. Life depleting in every way. I was feeling like a machine. I’m not having to do it this summer and am very thankful.
Driving like this makes me anti-automobile and anti-paved roads, anti-industrialization, and just anti lots of things. It makes me angry and hopeless. I have begun to wonder if God will judge me harshly for not finding a way to not do it because everything involving driving is so anti Creation.
Anyway, I’m happy you aren’t having to drive for awhile and hope my comment isn’t too negative. Driving makes me hopeless like nothing else; staying put at home and in nature makes me hopeful.
Thank you for the comment! I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that (generally) dislikes driving! :)
There are good things to be said for roads, especially. They're kind of the first indications of systems emerging out of chaos. In the US, it probably doesn't seem so as much, being that so many roads were set down on grids, but I'm grateful that we have them. :) I even think the idea of cars is great, but the practical implementation is the problem. Would it be any better with self driving flying pods? We'd probably find out that there would be significant drawbacks to that as well. :) I've just had wanderlust since I was little to one degree or another!
You make great points that are good because they help this old crank see the positive. I’m with you on wanderlust; I had it until I hit my early 40s and did see the bright side of travel up til then.
